the great south land

Happy Australia Day!!!

While its incredibly awesome to be having a long weekend, a Monday public holiday to celebrate all things Aussie – which usually includes pool parties, beer, sausages, bbq, cockroach races, lots of frivolity (though I think most people celebrated last night, Sunday, from the horrific sound of a neighbour being sick this morning – GROSS) and tennis for me!

It is also a day where I think how incredibly lucky we are to live in such an amazing country!  Pastor Jakin summed it up perfectly at church yesterday with three words;

We live in a country where we can express our faith freely!  We can drive safely to our local church without danger.   We can freely praise God without being vilified!  We can love and spread the word of Jesus to those in our country without being afraid of what others think or will do!  Its a country where faith is free and rejoiced!!!

We live in a free country!  A country where freedom is an absolute blessing and something that we should be thankful for daily!!!  It’s an incredible thing when we can live in a world where so many people fight every day for their freedom, yet here in Australia we have people fighting and risking their lives to GET to our shores to experience a free country!

We live in a country of extreme favour!  God has blessed this country and definitely has His hands firmly around Australia! His love for Australia and for the world  is unending!  But it is the hands and feet of His people, of us, who need to continually strive and spread His word and be kind and bring His love to all – so that we can continue to live in a free, favour-filled country.

I am proud to be an Australian.  To live in this beautiful country.  There is SO much to be grateful for, even the humid Queensland heat!

May God continue to bless us, love us and watch over us!  Happy Straya Day!

This is our nation, this is our land,
This land of plenty, this land of hope.
The richest harvest is in her peoples,
We see revival, His Spirit comes.

This is the Great Southland of the Holy Spirit,
A land of red dust plains and summer rains,
To this sun-burnt land we will see a flood,
And to this Great Southland His Spirit comes.
